Aluminum foil is present in every home in the world, allowing food to be preserved in the freezer or refrigerator, preventing it from spoiling over time.

Covered in aluminum foil

It is actually  not only useful in the kitchen  , it can solve various problems and also help  polish silver  .

Silver items are always present in the home. They are beautiful to look at and have a  unique shine  that makes them unique. Unfortunately, over time they deteriorate and darken. Whether they are valuable pieces,  like grandma’s silverware,  or jewelry bought at a low price, we always try to take care of them to prevent them from darkening.

Cutlery darkens over time, that’s why

Over time or  simply with prolonged contact with the skin,  on several occasions for example when going to the beach, when exposed to the sun, the cutlery oxidizes and  develops very annoying dark spots  .

But don’t worry, there are simple and free remedies to implement, which will allow you to have  your cutlery like new again  , without necessarily having to resort to a professional.

How to have a perfect silver using aluminum foil

To have the  perfect cutlery,  starting with the  cutlery that allows us to eat,  it is simply necessary to use aluminium foil. Take a bowl large enough to submerge the cutlery to be treated,  a sheet of aluminium foil  , a little salt and boiling water.

It is a good idea to make sure the container is sturdy enough as boiling water will be poured into it. It is advisable  to choose bowls made of hard plastic  or ceramic, which certainly provide a better guarantee.

The sheet of foil needs to be large enough to cover the inside of the bowl, so you’ll need  to adjust it based on the bowl you have available.

Procedure to make cutlery shine

To make the cutlery shine, first  line the inside of the bowl with aluminum foil  . The shiny side goes on top. At this point, place the cutlery inside, spaced out, and cover with fine salt. Then pour boiling water over it, covering the salt, but always being  careful not to burn yourself.

Leave the water, salt and aluminium to sit for a few hours to  remove the rust  . This will take at least 4/5 hours. After 5 hours, take out the cutlery, making sure the water is no longer too hot. Then rinse it under running water and dry it with a woollen cloth. The cutlery will be beautiful, almost like new, thanks to grandma’s old remedy.

Other simple and free remedies

The remedy described is an  old-fashioned trick and  represents one of the most effective solutions. However, it is important to know that there are many others, equally easy to implement. We usually have what we need at home.

First you need a  delicate and scented Marseille soap  . Soak the cutlery in water and 3 tablespoons of liquid soap to make it shine again. Or baking soda, delicate and effective. Place the cutlery in a bowl,  cover it with baking soda  and pour hot water over it. Leave it to act overnight, then rinse it and you’re done.

Then there is  toothpaste  ,  which you put on a soft-bristled brush  and gently rub over the cutlery. Then rinse. If the cutlery is not shiny enough, repeat the operation. Even white vinegar, which is useful in a thousand occasions, makes  silver shiny and sparkling,  the end result is fantastic. Simply soak the cutlery in hot water and add a glass of white vinegar. Leave it to act overnight and then rinse.
