Garlic clove on plants, the unthinkable secret of every gardener: few know it

A clove of garlic changes the flavor of any dish, but it is not only useful in the kitchen, it is also an excellent ally for health, a powerful pesticide, which helps keep lice and aphids away from plants.

Garlic in plants

In summer, plants are lush, and  they must be looked after  without ever forgetting them. They need water, and sometimes a little more care than in winter.

However, when  temperatures drop,  in autumn and winter, they need to be  protected from all types of insects  . A clove of garlic comes to the rescue in this case,  it can be a preventative measure  and help to remedy small infestations.

Garlic clove, therapy for plants

Before using pesticides that are harmful to health and to the plant itself, it is worth trying  garlic therapy,  which could prove to be a real panacea. The smell of garlic  is not at all pleasant  , not only for animals and insects, but also for humans.

Aphids of any colour, whether  green, yellow, grey or black,  hate the smell of garlic, which comes from a substance found in the bulb, allicin, which is made of sulphur. This substance  helps the plant fight off aphids  and red spider mites, which are the cause of the yellowing of the leaves.

How to use antiparasitic garlic

Garlic cloves act as pesticides if  you take them as they are and place  them  between the stem of the plant and the edge of the vase  . The important thing is to change them at least once a month, because during this period of time  they lose their smell and consequently their effectiveness.

You have to be careful, that is,  be careful when watering the plant  . It is not necessary to water the place where the bulbs are located because otherwise a garlic plant will grow. Obviously, this is  a preventive method  and therefore cannot be considered an effective remedy against infestations that have already begun.

However, when the parasites have been living in the plants for some time, a recipe can be prepared that is  especially good for flowering plants  . Peel the garlic cloves and boil them in half a litre of water.

They should be tender. Once done, filter the water and let it cool. Then pour it into a spray bottle and  spray it directly onto the plants  , avoiding contact with the flowers.  The treatment should be repeated every two days  , until you see that the plant has managed to get rid of all the parasites.

How to act on aromatic plants

However, in the case of aromatic plants or vegetable gardens, the treatment is different.  All you need to do is chop 5 cloves of garlic  and infuse them in cold water, just one litre is enough. Then let it sit for a whole day and filter it. Finally, spray it on the plants as in the previous treatment.

Each treatment should be repeated every year, every two days, until  the aphids have left the plant  . Pesticides can also be stored at home in the refrigerator for a week. Alternatively, they can be frozen and thawed when necessary. The results are satisfactory, no great expense is required. Usually a few cloves of garlic solve the problem in a few weeks.

Garlic has many beneficial properties, it is also good for humans, simply when used on the areas to be treated. Just rub a slice on calluses, corns, warts or chilblains to notice how the pain is relieved almost instantly. It is then an excellent disinfectant for wounds, it has many anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. When  mixed with vinegar it is miraculous  , not only for plants but also for humans.
